Honda Manufacturing of Alabama to Increase Annual Production

Do you know where your Honda Pilot came from? 

The answer is: Lincoln, Alabama, home of Honda Manufacturing of Alabama.  The facility produces 300,000 Pilots, Odysseys, Ridgelines and V-6 engines annually.  That amount supplies the global demand for those models, and Honda recently announced they will be investing $84 million to boost production by 40,000 vehicles per year.  HMA will also be hiring 100 new employees.

Employees at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama have a number of things to celebrate in addition to the plant’s expansion.  Last Monday, HMA celebrated its tenth anniversary.  When the facility opened November 14, 2001, it manufactured Honda Odysseys.

When HMA opened, it became the first Zero Landfill Facility, meaning the company sends no waste to any landfills.  Over the decades, other Honda facilities have followed suit, and as of last summer, ten Honda facilities in North America are zero-waste-to-landfill facilities, and the other four in North America function with “virtually no waste” to landfill.

The no-waste-to-landfill achievement is impressive when you consider the number of operations HMA performs.  Among those operations are stamping, welding, painting, casting, assembly, sub-assembly, testing, quality assurance, and more.

HMA has established itself as a leader in environmental leadership over the past decade. In addition to its zero-waste-to-landfill commitment, it has received Energy Star awards from the EPA.  The company has made significant strides in reducing the amount of energy it uses throughout the production process, and subscribes to the classic “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” efforts of the environmental movement.

Over the past ten years, HMA has seen phenomenal success.  It has been a leader in creating environmentally friendly production practices.  With the new investment and new employees, HMA is sure to carry on that success in the next decade to come.
